USA Today All-Joe Team
The USA Today All-Joe team is an annual selection of National Football League players and coaches deemed hard workers and over-achievers that may be overlooked by the biased media.[1] Players that have been selected to the Pro Bowl are not eligible for the All-Joe team.[1]
Origin
Presented annually by the USA Today since 1992, the All-Joe team is named after Joe Phillips, a defensive tackle who played for the Minnesota Vikings, San Diego Chargers, Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Rams during a 14-year NFL career.[1]
Pro Bowl alumni
While no players that have previously been selected to the Pro Bowl are eligible for the All-Joe team, a number of All-Joe alumni have gone on to earn Pro Bowl selections.[1] Those players include:[1]
- Jared Allen, defensive end, Kansas City Chiefs
- Nnamdi Asomugha, cornerback, Oakland Raiders
- Yeremiah Bell, safety, Miami Dolphins
- Trent Cole, defensive end, Philadelphia Eagles
- Cortland Finnegan, cornerback, Tennessee Titans
- Jay Ratliff, nose tackle, Dallas Cowboys
- Justin Tuck, defensive end, New York Giants
- Leon Washington, kick returner, New York Jets
- Casey Wiegmann, center, Kansas City Chiefs
- Wes Welker, wide receiver, New England Patriots
- Antoine Winfield, cornerback, Buffalo Bills
- Leonard Weaver, fullback, Seattle Seahawks
- Aaron Smith, defensive end, Steelers
- Montell Owens, special teams, Jacksonville Jaguars
- (Note: teams listed are those with which player earned original All-Joe selection, and not necessarily their current team.)
